My dearest friend texted me this photo recently.
I was complaining about being tired. Again.
I suppose this photo struck a chord with me because it doesn’t seem to matter if I get 10 hours of sleep or zero hours of sleep, I am just plain tired. Weary might be a better description.
No amount of sleep will cure the weary soul.
And I’m not going to mince words here, I am weary. Soul-weary.
It’s a battle each day to keep getting up and hanging onto hope. To persevere when every door you knock on gets slammed in your face. Life feels like it has backed you into a corner with no way out.
Yet there is this one little phrase that keeps coming to mind….But God.
I may feel tired – But God gives rest to the weary.
Everything may look impossible – But God is a God of miracles.
I may struggle to understand why things aren’t changing – But God is my source of trust.
Anxiety and worry may threaten to overtake me – But God can calm the raging seas.
I may not know what will happen or how things will work out – But God is my provider.
I’ve said it before, He is the one who anchors hope to my weary soul.
And when sleep won’t come and it all feels like too much, I reach for the Word. I search page after page digging for Truth to cling to during these difficult days.
John 10:10 tells us the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy. He wants nothing less than destroy our lives and more importantly to steal our faith. He wants to convince us that God doesn’t care about our situation and will never answer our prayers. And when that happens, weary souls threaten to give up.
But God. The rest of that verse says, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
But God. In Matthew 11:28, Christ says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
We have to keep looking up to God and digging deep in the Word. It will sustain us. He is the bread of life. The living water. He is all we need.
I don’t know about you, but my weary soul needs to hear this tonight.
Don’t give up. Give your weary soul some rest by going to the Father who cares for you.
That’s what I’m doing. Moment by moment. Knowing He is good and worthy of my trust. No matter why your soul is weary, remember that But God…
